With 1 week remaining in season 25, all of the divisional races have been decided. In Division A, David S. is the winner. Unfortunately, due to his illness last week, he will not have a shot at tying the club record of 63 wins in a single season. In Division B1, Roger locked up the seasonal title, while in Div. B2, Nina was the winner. Regarding playoffs, I received valuable feedback from approximately 25-30 players. For the club championship (Div. A), the 1st place finisher (David S.) will have a bye. Players finishing in places 2-5 will play a 3-game, single round-robin mini-series. The winner of that mini-series will face David S. for the Championship. That series will remain a best-of-five format. The bottom two finishers in Div. A will automatically be relegated to Div. B1. Playoffs for Div. B1 & B2 are eliminated. The top 2 finishers in B1 will automatically be promoted to Div. A. Since the primary difference between B1 & B2 is the use of a clock, relegation from B1 and promotion from B2 will be handled a bit differently. The bottom 2 finishers in B1 will be offered a choice of relegation to B2 or remaining in B1. The top 2 finishers in B2 will be allowed to choose between moving up to B1 or remaining in B2. All games in B1 will continue to use clocks, while B2 (for the time being) will not. While it is possible that B1 will get too big at the expense of B2, my experience has shown me that most players in B2 enjoy the more casual format, and will opt to remain there. We will try this new system out for seasons 55 & 56. At the end of season 56, I will re-evaluate how things are working, and consider other alternatives. This was not an impulsive decision on my part. A lot of thought was given in the context of considerable input from a large number of players at the club. It is my hope that this new arrangement will satisfy most needs at the club, while making the transition between seasons much more streamlined administratively. Please be patient and let's see how it works.
